Due to a little lack of inspiration….I blame COVID….I decided to go back to basics and play with foundational dye techniques to play a little bit. It resulted in some one of a kind yarns! ❤
I had a blue and yellow dye that, when mixed, was creating a gorgeous green so I wanted to experiment. I decided to dye a sock and worsted yarn with citric acid added at the beginning and another set with the citric acid added at the end. Citric acid ( or vinegar) helps to fix the dyes and exhaust the dye bath, so typically colours will strike faster with it in the mix.
This listing is for the worsted yarn and you will see two options…one skein of pre-citric acid and one of post-citric acid. (The sock yarn can be found in a separate listing HERE)
The one that had the acid added at the end (on the left in the main photo) is more solid coloured with a smoother colour overall, mainly a rich green. There are still some speckles here and there but most of the yellow has disappeared
The skein that started with acid (on the right) has more movement as the colours settled quickly with less mixing….small sections of colour, speckles, yellow, blue and green…and even a bit of white.
The pre and post skeins would also work well together and likely offer a subtle striping effect since they are created from the same base colours and are, overall, very similar.

NOTES RE HAND-DYED YARNS:
Be aware that colors may appear differently on different computer monitors, but every effort has been made to portray them as accurately as possible.
All of my yarns are hand dyed and, as much as I attempt to match, every batch is one-of-a-kind. Be sure to order what you need as matching future batches are not guaranteed.
When using hand-dyed yarns in a project that requires more than one skein, it is strongly recommended to alternate skeins every other row of knitting to even out any differences.
Lastly, as with any hand dyed yarn, please expect minor imperfections and some variation from skein to skein (even within the same batch), as each skein is individually hand painted.
