For those who may not have seen mention of my brother-in-laws farm on my Instagram, he lives in the Ottawa Valley and raises sheep, mainly North County Cheviots. I have been lucky enough to visit during shearing time and then head home with a lot of fleece!
This yarn is quite special to me because I was there when it was sheared, I skirted it, brought it home, washed it, sent it to a local mill to be spun, and then hand-dyed it! I have been with it from the beginning and that adds a layer of awesomeness to these skeins that I can’t describe 🙂
Although Cheviot fleece isn’t as fine as, say, merino, I have very much enjoyed working with this Cheviot. In the photos of this listing, you can see a collage of various hats etc I have made for family and friends. (One skein will make a hat)
This is a lovely, rugged and hardy yarn. For those who like to work with from-the-source untreated fibre, you will love this! 💚💙 It has lovely squish and bounce and is IMHO fine for next to skin as hats, cowls, mittens etc.
Note if you typically work with merino/cashmere/pure alpaca/etc:
Please note that you will find this yarn very different. It is a lovely worsted yarn with a heavier hand and slightly coarser feel.
You will find bits of veggie matter (hay, grass) in the skeins. Not a ton, but you will come across some as you work.
These skeins were skeined at a small local wool mill. They do have some slight imperfections but to me that just adds to character of the skeins and the yarn!

NOTES RE HAND-DYED YARNS:
Be aware that colors may appear differently on different computer monitors, but every effort has been made to portray them as accurately as possible.
All of my yarns are hand dyed and, as much as I attempt to match, every batch is one-of-a-kind. Be sure to order what you need as matching future batches are not guaranteed.
When using hand-dyed yarns in a project that requires more than one skein, it is strongly recommended to alternate skeins every other row of knitting to even out any differences.
Lastly, as with any hand dyed yarn, please expect minor imperfections and some variation from skein to skein (even within the same batch), as each skein is individually hand painted.
